II. The Beacon
The Beacon is a symbol of the dynamic, beating heart of the community—it’s a recruitment center, a news feed, and an ode to Harvey and our history, all in one. This monument tells the story not only of Harvey Milk, but of the Castro’s legacy of LGBTQ+ energy, and of the victories and ongoing struggles of the movement. The panels of various shapes and sizes—some of which are digital display panels—reference the signs seen at many gatherings, both yesterday and today.
